Washington Plantation Antiques, Etc! This shop has an eclectic selection of treasures from antebellum furniture and smalls, period Victorian parlor sets to brand new linen wine glass booties. Within that range we have a selection of antique child/doll sized furniture, primitives and a diverse assortment of decorative items and collectables. Among the collectibles are comic books, action figures and board games.
What sets this shop apart from others are our restoration services. We do on-site furniture repairs that include:
Caning Both pre-woven and hand woven caning are available. The varieties of hand woven caning are: the basic “seven step” (honey comb) pattern, herringbone, porch chair (backs & seats) and splint (broad flat cane). The finished product will be stained and finished to look like the original. Nothing looks as out of place as a shiny new seat in an antique chair.
Rushing We can replace both natural and fiber rush seats. As with the cane, the finished seat, it will be stained and finished to look just like the original.
Antique Upholstering We use the same upholstering methods as were used in the original piece. That means we don’t use staples or metal edging. All layers are attached with upholstery tacks. The springs are hand tied and stitched to the webbing. We use cotton batting for padding, not acrylic.
Furniture Restoration No matter what the piece being restored needs, after removal of the original seat (and/or back), the piece is evaluated for soundness. If necessary, loose joints are all re-glued. A new seat can be used only if the chair can support a body’s weight. Overly worn finishes can be cleaned and revitalized. We do whatever it takes to make an old treasure useful and beautiful again.
